A very interesting Cobb blog

What's all this about blogs?

A blog is probably the easiest way to create content on the Internet. People and organizations that have had a presence on the Internet for a long time, such as Cobb Associates, were accustomed to adding new content to their web sites by creating new web pages or editing old ones. The skills required to do this are not particularly hard to master, but the process looks quite ungainly when compared to the ease with which a blog entry can be created.

Blogs cut both ways and represent a considerable risk to companies. If allowed, an employee can create a blog entry, or even a whole new blog, in a matter of seconds, using just a web browser and an Internet connection. The employee can then dump just about anything to the blog: text, images, audio, video, etc. Unless you are screening your outbound traffic for sensitive or proprietary data the employee can thus send your secrets to a server somewhere way beyond your control, for either the world to see for free--or to be hidden from you if the blog is password protected--and maybe offered for sale to the highest bidder.

Beyond blogs:

We still think there is a place for other forms of web publishing besides blogs. We will soon be adding chapters from Stephen Cobb's security and privacy books to the site.
